Former Minister of Women, Youth & People with Disabilities: Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya

This week we are joined by Ms Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya: Former Minister of Women, Youth, Children and People with Disabilities; former President of NEHAWU, and currently South Africa’s Ambassador to Egypt. We discuss some of the challenges she experienced in her role as first female president of NEHAWU, overcoming gender stereotypes to prove that women possess the attributes to be competent capable leaders. Yet this capability still tends to be overlooked in the corporate sector. We reflect on the birth of the Progressive Women’s Movement as an important milestone in South Africa’s history to unite women along common issues, and stress that women must continue to embody one voice and speak out about issues that affect them; politically, socially, legally and economically, to make meaningful contributions for the betterment of society.
