Vice-President of the Pan African University & Dean Mamelodi Campus University of Pretoria – Professor Nthabiseng Audrey

This week we talk to the Vice-President of the Pan African University and Dean of the Mamelodi Campus University of Pretoria – Professor Nthabiseng Audrey Ogude. We discuss some of the intrinsics of the institution’s anchor strategy which inextricably links the future of the community of Mamelodi with that of the University’s Mamelodi campus. One arm of this strategy is to implement interventions that stem the cycle of poverty, for instance by focussing on education and broadening academic pathways for members of the community. Prof. Ogude describes the Pan African University as a human capital initiative with five regional specialised research nodes. Governance, Social Sciences and Humanities in Central Africa; Basic Sciences in East Africa; Life Sciences in West Africa; Water and Energy in North Africa; and shortly Space Sciences will be created in South Africa. We address some of the factors that contribute to women in leadership, including the need for people to recognise potential leaders and encourage their growth into leadership roles; the need for individuals to shadow leaders; the importance of exercising leadership effectively in whatever sphere one occupies; and to have a supportive environment particularly in the home.
