This week on Womanity-Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Dr Daleen Alexander (head of undergraduate affairs at the Department of Psychology) Dr Jaishika Seedat (head of the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology), and Dr. Simangele Mayisela (head of transformation), from the School of Human and Community Development at WITS University. In this two part series we firstly consider some of the factors that contribute towards gender discrimination, such as: children introduced to genderised roles in childhood; sexualised stereotyping and expectations of women and men to perform particular tasks; cultural norms and the history of the country impacting on behaviour; insufficient knowledge of one’s rights and poor enactment of protective policies.
