International Women’s Day – Gender Equality Part 3

This week on Womanity-Women in Unity, we commemorate International Women’s Day, which is celebrated annually on the 8th of March. This year’s theme is Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow. The leaders featured in today’s compilation share their views on the significance of International Women’s Day and gender equality. In today’s compilation we hear from Ambassador of Finland to South Africa and non-resident Ambassador of Finland to Botswana, Lesotho and Mauritius, Anne Lammila who shares some of the factors that contribute to advancing gender equality, emphasising the need to defend women’s political and economic rights. High Court Judge Thando Mankge from the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court asserts that legislation cannot remain paper rhetoric, it must be applied in practice for women’s rights to be honoured as human rights. Dr. Melinda Suchard who is the Head of the Centre for Vaccines and Immunology in The National Institute For Communicable Diseases, with a joint appointment as lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, discusses women in leadership and reflects on traits of authenticity, positivity, emotional intelligence, self-confidence, caring about your followers and looking at the long run.
