Vice President of Pan African Parliament: Dr. Bernadette Lahai

This week we talk to Dr. Bernadette Lahai Vice President of the Pan African Parliament & Minority Leader of Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the Parliament Of Sierra Leone. We review the role of the Pan African Parliament’s Women’s Caucus, which aims to mainstream gender issues in the Pan African Parliament agenda. The scope of the Women’s Caucus encompasses women’s education – formal as well as functional literacy, reproductive health and rights, hereditary rights, land rights and ownership and driving the ratification and signing of important gender related protocols. We emphasise that distinctions continue to be drawn with a different set of rules applying to men and women, which will be overcome as women continue to break barriers to demonstrate their capabilities.
