High Commissioner of Canada: Sandra McCardell

This week we talk to the High Commissioner of Canada to South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius, Lesotho and Namibia – Sandra McCardell. We consider some of the dynamics affecting women in leadership positions. In the professional space female leaders are often judged differently to male counterparts. In the family environment the female expression of authority tends to be inherent; children are taught to listen first and foremost to their mothers who bring a sense of caring and collegiality. We acknowledge the complexity of family influences on women’s lives and the importance of implementing legislation to support women’s rights – women aren’t equal until all women are equal. Women need to believe in their values as human beings and carry that strength forward, enabling themselves through education and attaining financial independence. Tune in for more…
