Ilse Hayes: Paralympic Gold Medallist

This week we talk to South African Paralympic and World Championship gold medallist Ilse Hayes. We discuss some of her career highlights and underlying drivers for success. A few of her motivating factors include: self belief to be better than yesterday; setting tangible goals; being present – focussing on the here and now; strong support systems – in family, coaches and peers; as well as striving for personal intrinsic values rather than extrinsic rewards. She elaborates on some of her role models, expressing how they have influenced and shaped her life. We consider the parallels between lessons learnt on the track and their applicability in corporate environments, such as time management or adapting behaviours in the face of uncontrollable elements to manage optimal outcomes.
