Parliamentarian & Chairperson Portfolio Committee on Tourism: Lusizo Makhubela-Mashele

This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Parliamentarian and Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Tourism Ms Lusizo Makhubela-Mashele about some of the responsibilities in this role. Tourism contributes to almost 10% of South Africa’s GDP and accounts for approximately 10% of the country’s workforce with a value chain that cuts across the spectrum, especially in hospitality, transport and agriculture sectors. Ms Makhubela-Mashele speaks about the rise of township and rural tourism in conjunction with tourist demand for cultural tourism and the positive effect these offerings have on empowering women in these spaces.
