Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland – Part 2

This week on Womanity-Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland. In the second part of this two part interview the Secretary General reflects on some of the pioneering work she has done to demonstrate the economic cost of domestic violence – extending across the public sector, loss of profitability to businesses, pain, injury and suffering. She emphasizes the importance of sharing lessons learnt, both successes and failures between Commonwealth nations to accelerate development amongst countries. She highlights examples of brilliant female leadership confronting COVID-19. The Secretary General shares some insights into her upbringing, as one of twelve children, born in Dominica, growing up in the East End of London, and rising above the odds to pursue her ambitions; demonstrating that things can and will change if we make them change, and remembering to recognize our individuality and our power to make a difference in this world if we choose to.
