Minister of Forestry and Fisheries and Environmental Affairs – Barbara Creecy

This week on Womanity-Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to the Minister of Forestry and Fisheries and Environmental Affairs, Barbara Creecy. The Department’s mission is to provide leadership in environmental management, conservation and protection towards sustainability for the benefit of South Africans and the global community. Three core areas that the Department is addressing is biodiversity loss, sustainability and climate change; and unless society changes the way that we exploit our natural resources, human life as we know it is not sustainable. Minister Creecy shares some of the public employment programmes available for women in the restoration of ecosystems, and school outreach programmes designed to encourage girls to pursue science subjects and scientific careers. Minister Creecy reflects on her MEC role in the Gauteng Department of Education which initiated various programmes that radically improved matric performance rates. She emphasises the importance of allowing girls who fall pregnant to resume their schooling and complete their education. Tune in for more…
