This week we are joined by Dr. Yasmin Adam who heads up the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest hospital in Africa. We acknowledge the successful transformation of equitable gender ratios in medicine, as a product of the quota interventions medical schools put in place and the positive impact this has had on female leadership in hospital environments. A further development has been the growth of female medical specialists, particularly in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology discipline. We also consider the long-term effects of the South African government’s HPV vaccine campaign to vaccinate school girls for the prevention of cervical cancer in later life; and much more.
