Former Minister of Culture & Ambassador of Senegal: Safiatou Ndiaye

This week we talk to Ms Safiatou Ndiaye, the Ambassador of Senegal to South Africa. We reflect on her 30 year career in politics and some of the responsibilities in her current role, such as fostering greater economic trade between Senegal and South Africa (particularly in the commodities space) and promoting cultural relations between these two nations. We discuss some of the challenges that handicap gender parity objectives, like traditional cultural aspects and religious considerations. In spite of these pressures Senegal has managed to achieve one of its gender goals – for girls to attend high school. The next step is for these high school graduates to pursue tertiary education and go on to develop professional careers as economically empowered women. We acknowledge the sacrifices that female leaders have made and their responsibilities as role models and mentors for successive generations . Tune in for more…
