Cardiologist – University of Cape Town – Dr. Blanche Cupido

This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Dr. Blanche Cupido, a cardiologist with a special interest in congenital heart disease. She heads up the echocardiography division at the Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Cape Town. Dr. Cupido shares a few details about her work, covering clinical aspects, building capacity, teaching undergraduate medical students and treating adults with congenital heart disease. We discuss the scarcity of cardiologists in South Africa and Africa, noting that there are approximately 160-170 cardiologists serving a population of 57million people, furthermore there are less than 30 cardiologists working in the public sector.
