Member of Parliament – ACPD – Marie Sukers

This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Marie Sukers, who serves as a Member of Parliament for the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) and sits on the portfolio committees of Basic Education and Social Development. We discuss some of the responsibilities of parliament in terms of delivering services to citizens and ensuring that legislation that has been passed is implemented in communities. Ms Sukers shares some of the highlights from the recent Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting in Uganda, noting that the global average of female representation in parliaments is under 25%. She remarks on the role of men in political parties to help promote women within their structures, as one aspect of shoring up female representation in parliament.
