Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration – Lydia Sindisiwe Chikunga

This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration, Lydia Sindisiwe Chikunga. We discuss the Department’s work under the Batho Pele philosophy, with respect to setting norms and standards for government departments to best serve citizens and the governance thereof. We also speak about the Department’s role in the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), from the perspective of South Africa being one of the co-founding countries of APRM and taking over its chair-ship in 2020. We emphasise APRM as tool to build on the knowledge of others to accelerate development. We also unpack some of the cultural dynamics that perpetuate gender-based violence in communities. We address women’s empowerment, with a focus on education and access to resources as strategic enablers, and if integrated effectively, by working together we will leave no woman behind.
