This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Dr. Lizle Oosthuizen, who is a registered specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist practising at Cape Fertility in Claremont Cape Town as a fellow in Reproductive Medicine. Given that June is World Infertility Awareness month our conversation highlights some of the factors that contribute to infertility. Lifestyle vectors that impact on the likelihood of successful conception include being overweight, unmanaged stress levels, smoking and ageing.  We address egg freezing or cryo preservation as one option for women to bank their eggs for the future, in the event that they want to delay starting a family, thus creating choice for women as they manage their careers and partnerships. Dr Oosthuizen reflects on some of the milestones in her career such as turning around a labour ward in a rural Eastern Cape hospital to the point of zero maternal mortalities and using intuition to creatively find solutions in situations of limited resources.
