Former National Police Commissioner & CEO Safer South Africa Foundation – General Riah Phiyega

This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to General Riah Phiyega, who was the former National Commissioner of the South African Police Services and currently serves as CEO of the Safer South Africa Foundation. We discuss the role of the foundation with respect to civil rights and community involvement in crime prevention management with a focus on youth programmes that cut across the criminal justice stakeholder value chain, as well as the longitudinal value of these interventions on the country’s social fabric. We consider the responsibility of women as primary care givers to deter criminal behaviour, to socialise children against gender based violence and foster respect for girls and women. Our conversation regarding women in leadership touches on some of qualities women bring to the table, such as compassion for effective outcomes, and examines the role of the South African Chapter of the International Women’s Forum to advance women’s leadership across careers, cultures and continents. We emphasise the duty of pathfinders to dispense their wisdom to path-followers that rise behind them. Tune in for more….
