South African National Defence Force: Brigadier-General Winnie Ntombizodwa Zini-Bobelo

This week on Womanity – Women in Unity, Dr. Amaleya Goneos-Malka talks to Brigadier-General Winnie Ntombizodwa Zini-Bobelo. Brigadier-General Bobelo shares a few of the landmarks in her career with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). Some of these milestones have exerted a positive impact on the lives of women: such as role modelling and mentoring women to aspire for leadership roles in SANDF; addressing women as peacekeepers; and correspondingly their work in post conflict management and protection of women. She highlights some of the peacekeeping functions undertaken by SANDF in different countries in Africa, such as Burundi, Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo. Looking to the future of women and reflecting on her own experiences, Brigadier-General Bobelo notes the importance of gaining knowledge through education, developing confidence, evolving risk-taking skills, wholeheartedly embracing opportunities that present themselves and digital transformation.
