Award winning actress: Nondumiso Tembe – Part 1

This week we talk to multi-award winning actress, singer and songwriter Nondumiso Tembe. We discuss some of the forces that helped to shape her career in the performing arts, ranging from supportive parents, to developing self confidence, and a passion for emotive storytelling. We hear about some of the characters that she has played and her desire to tell stories about real, relatable, multi-dimensional, dynamic, complicated women; and her deliberate choice not to undertake work that perpetuates negative stereotypes – whether about women or Africans. We talk about her recent role as Joyce in the revival of King Kong and reflect on re-enacting an important part of South African cultural history depicting lives and sentiment of the era.
